Hi all,

I'm emailing everyone who has registered for CIS 700 because there are two things that you can do NOW before the course starts to help us get started more quickly.

1) sign up to be an author on Citizendium at http://en.citizendium.org/wiki/Special:RequestAccount using the following options:
          * use your *Penn email account* (helps confirm who you are)
          * select to be an* author *(not an editor)
          * please select both *the "Computers" and "Eduzendium" workgroups*
          * give your *real name* (whatever you like to be called as first name, and actual last name)
          * in the Biography section, *copy in the entire text from the attached text file* (you can change this later on);
                  it is one very long line but will wrap in the web form
          * under "list of websites" for confirming your identity, please include:
                 *http://alliance.seas.upenn.edu/~cis700/index2.html
                 http://harbormist.com/cis700_08/*
          * select the "*Signature*" and then click "*Request account*"
    You should receive an email within a week containing your login and password for authoring on http://citizendium.org/

2) per instructions in the syllabus developing at: http://harbormist.com/cis700_08/ please consider purchasing your Microsoft website hosting as described in the syllabus (you'll have to find an available domain name first, and it requires a credit card or ATM that will act like a VISA card):
          * be sure to select *IIS6 and ASP.NET2* for a minimum 3-months timeframe, or longer if you wish; this should cost no more than $45

I look forwards to meeting you all in 10 days.  If you can do these things in advance, you'll be able to get a quicker start on the coursework!

Regards,

Pat

I am a student at the University of Pennsylvania, taking course CIS 700 section 920, Summer II, ("Special Topics: Emerging Technologies"). As such I am being required to author in Eduzendium in the Computers Workgroup. We will be working on unlocked articles relating to varioius emerging software technologies. The course syllabus is at http://alliance.seas.upenn.edu/~cis700/index2.html (redirected to http://harbormist.com/cis700_08/ ).
